MEET THE TEAM
Prof Gordon McVie
Professor Gordon McVie is senior consultant at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan. Gordon is passionate about the rights of the patient and founded Cancer Intelligence to promote communication and well-being between cancer patients, carers, scientists, doctors, and the media.
Susi has over 15 years communication and marketing experience across multiplatform media with global brands: Virgin Mobile, Dyson Ltd, KLM airlines, and Cancer Research UK. A Bristol University graduate, she has worked on ecancer.org since launch and has been the CEO of Cancer Intelligence for the past five years.
Jon has a Masters in Science, Media and Communication from Cardiff University. He has studied a range of sciences and has experience analysing health related news, working in broadcast media and translating scientific research into clear, concise copy. He is the Managing Editor of the news and video sections of ecancer.
Dr. Linda Cairns
Dr. Linda Ann Cairns, Science Editor, has a Ph.D. from University College London and worked as a Research Fellow at the European Institute of Oncology for over 20 years. She oversees scientific editorial content, including evaluation of all scientific documents.
Danny has a wealth of experience in the not-for-profit sector, with over 10 years working for leading cancer and educational charities in fundraising and business development. He has recently completed a post graduate certificate in eLearning and has a background in science with a Physics BSc. He manages cancer education and European projects.
Catherine graduated from Plymouth University with a media arts degree. She worked for a leading company designing and developing educational software for schools around the UK before joining Cancer Intelligence in the e-learning department.
Head of Communications and Engagement
Karen graduated from Goldsmiths University before starting her Masters in Marketing at the University of the West of England. Her marketing and PR career has spanned senior roles at The Natural History Museum, The Lancet and more recently IOP Publishing. At CI she is Head of Communications and engagement.
Audrey has a BSc in Biology and English from the University of New Hampshire, USA. A seasoned science communicator and performer, she has over five years of research experience at Dartmouth College and the University of Bristol.
Katie joined Cancer Intelligence from the Institute of Physics Publishing (IOPP), where she spent over ten years in the production department. She has a BA in English Literature from Bristol University and, as Head of Publishing, she manages all the ecancer journal processes, growing the journal from strength to strength.
Lara is a business administration graduate with many years of publishing experience from working at the Institute of Physics Publishing (IOP), before joining Cancer Intelligence in 2012. She has extensive experience of peer review and commissioning.
Liz is responsible for the management of accounts payable and receivable and is the person to ask if there are any questions about accounts. She has years of experience in a wide range of finance roles.
James graduated from Bath Spa University specialising in video editing and camera operating. He has worked on many promotional, publishing and action sports video projects across the globe for major companies such as Red Bull, Harper Collins and Etnies before joining Cancer Intelligence. He continues to travel the world as a producer and video editor, bringing you the latest in oncology news.
Video and news
Matt graduated from Imperial College London with a BSc in Biology and an MRes in Tropical Forest Ecology where he studied deforestation and genomics in Malaysian Borneo. Since then he has made travel content for LATAM airlines and scientific shorts and animations for Imperial. Matt employs a combination of science communication and videography skills to produce engaging news and video content for ecancer.
Sam graduated from Plymouth College of Art with a BA in Design for Games. With specialities in 3D, graphic and games design, he now utilises his skills in the design of our interactive e-learning courses and marketing materials.
Brandon graduated from the University of Portsmouth with a BSc Media Production degree in 2015. Since then he has been working within the broadcast and video production sector on a range of different projects from panel shows to weddings. Brandon has worked for the BBC, Capital Crewing and Sky Sports on broadcast productions in recent years. He joined Cancer Intelligence in May 2017 as a News and Video Producer.
Melissa graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2014 after achieving first class honours in MArt Film and Media Production. She currently designs e-learning content, manages social media marketing for the education team, and generates videos for e-learning modules alongside the ecancerpatient website.
Web Development Management
Jonathan has a background in technical software development and a PhD in Medical Physics from the Institute of Cancer Research in London. He is managing the web technologies and web development for the ecancer platform and associated activities.
Jess graduated from the University of Worcester with a degree in Creative Digital Media. As a designer with a keen eye for digital experiences, she is focused on upholding a high standard of e-learning in all of our courses. Every new project is seen as an opportunity to improve the education we offer and provide an engaging learner experience.
Will holds a BSc in Human Biology and an MSc in Science Communication, and is responsible for conducting interviews in ecancer video productions. He writes reviews and research summaries for ecancer, and also contributes regularly to science blogs and podcasts.
